Office of Community and Civic Engagement
Welcome to the Office of Community and Civic Engagement at the University of Maryland, Baltimore UMB. We are a dedicated team fostering collaborations among UMB's resources and community stakeholders across the state of Maryland. Our focus lies in strengthening connections with communities bordering our campus in West Baltimore, including partnerships with K-12 public schools, community organizations, non-profit agencies, and local businesses.
Our mission is to align UMB's academic, research, and clinical expertise with practical needs identified by local communities. We facilitate strategic relationships between the University's professional schools, faculty, staff, and students in support of volunteer activities and service-learning initiatives that address these community needs.
The heart of our efforts is the Community Engagement Center CEC, which serves as a hub for engagement in West Baltimore neighborhoods. The CEC provides free quality programs, services, supports, trnings, and activities designed to empower our neighbors and enhance the health and wellbeing of communities in this area.
Our vision is to create an environment where people of all ages can find resources that help them overcome challenges and build stronger lives. The recent expansion of the CEC has enabled us to offer more programs and services than ever before, making it easier for us to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who are growing up in poverty or vulnerable situations.
In addition to our direct service initiatives, we regularly share updates about projects that reflect UMB's commitment to community engagement through the Volunteer Opportunities page and regular news posts. We invite you to explore these resources and join us as a volunteer today!
Please feel free to contact us for more information on how we can help bridge the gap between UMB's expertise and the needs of our neighbors in West Baltimore.
